The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Samson Tella and Raphael John, for allegedly robbing unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables in the Lekki and Ajah areas of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Thursday that the suspects were arrested for attacking the owner of a Toyota Corolla car and extorting N20,000 from the victim.

He said, “Men of the Lagos State Police Command attached to the Ilasan Division on August 3, 2021, around 9.30am arrested two suspected armed robbers, Samson Tella, 37, and Raphael John, 21, who specialise in ‘one-chance’ robbery and have been terrorising the Lekki/Ajah axis of Lagos State.

“The suspected robbers had on August 2, 2021, around 9.30pm, attacked the owner of a Toyota Corolla car with number plate JJJ 242 FW in the Ikate area of Lagos, took over the steering, drove him to an ATM point in Ikate and withdrew N20,000 from the account of the victim.

“The victim quickly informed the police, who tracked down the car to a mechanic workshop in Lafiaji, Lagos Island, on August 3, 2021, where the suspects were arrested with the stolen car. The victim identified Samson Tella as one of the robbers, who attacked him.”

Adejobi said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, had ordered that the suspects should be transferred to the Special Squad in Ikeja for further investigation.

The PPRO added, “The state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, in furtherance of his efforts to reduce crime, especially ‘one-chance’ to its barest minimum in Lagos State, has reiterated his order to tactic commanders in the command to expedite action in flushing out other ‘one-chance’ operators in the state.

“The CP, therefore, reassured the good people of Lagos State of adequate security of lives and property, and to sustain the peace that is being enjoyed by the residents. He also ordered that the suspects be transferred to the Special Squad, Ikeja, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.”
